Is the solar flare affecting you at all?
I was listening to some amateurs on 40 metres with my
Yaesu FTDX-400 when there was a bang and a loud hum from
the power supply area. There was also a puff of smoke from
the power supply area and then the power board circuit breaker
tripped out.

The fuse in the radio did not blow because it had way too heavy
a fuse. I'm wondering if that had been done because there was
a power supply fault before I got the radio.

I turned the radio over and removed the bottom panel.
I can't see anything obviously burnt in spite of the puff
of smoke.

I suppose that's what I get for buying such an old radio but
hopefully its still worth the small amount I paid for it and it was
a buzz that the receiver did work.

No, you don't even have a FTDX-400 or any other radio.

ROFLMAO! Nice try to pin the problem on someone else.

Gee, if you knew ANYTHING about electronics, you could troubleshoot the
problem. It's one of the easiest ones around.

No, it's what you get for being a lying TROLL. W e already know you are
not a ham, know nothing about ham radio (or electronics, for that
matter). And now you've once again proven it.

There is NO WAY a solar flare would cause the problem you claim. And if
you knew ANYTHING about electronics - even the least amount needed to
get the lowest level license in any country in the world (which, quite
frankly, isn't much), you would understand this.

No wonder you use a freebie email address and won't provide a call sign.
But then you're also a known troll in many newsgroups, aren't you? -
like alt.os.windows.xp, soc.culture.irish, alt.bible.prophecy,
soc.culture.jewish and dozens of others.

I bought it from an online auction for less than AU$100 including
freight. Surely its still worth that much to an enthusiast,

Why do people put way overrated fuses in electronic equipment?

I got my amateur license in 1979.

I suppose it could have been an amazing coincidence.

Knowledgeable people DON'T. That includes real hams.

No, you've already proven you know nothing about ham radio - not even
enough to get the lowest level license available.

You have NO CALL - as you've proven with previous comments. But you
claim you have one - what is it?

Another case of proving you know NOTHING about ham radio.

A perfect example. Only a troll would unmunge an email address. No
wonder you won't use a real name or call sign, and use a fee email address.

Your momma would be ashamed of you.

But how did this get from .equipment to .boatanchors?

IN the first place, these are blog postings, the writers aren't here, they
are being spewed here by the rec.radio.amateur.* hierarchy dictators, who
have decided we need write only messages.

Such messages have no place here, and the dictators are abusing the
newsgroups with this junk.

So you can't reply to such messages expected a reply from the original
writer, they are as gone from here as those replies to 20 year old posts
via google.

And don't make it all worse by copying your post to another group and
putting it here. We've got enough problems with the dictators, indeed if
you reply to a message that is cross-posted to the moderated newsgroup, it
won't be seen unless the dicatators let it through. They have
misconfigured software, and thus control the newsgroup way more than they
should be allowed. They tell us we can cross-post to the moderated
newsgroup, but they never asked us if we wanted their moderated newsgroup
crossposted to the other newsgroups.

Some idiot crossposted it again.

That said, the HF bands are actually not doing all that badly considering
how high the A index is today. But I am sure that at some point tomorrow
I'm going to be getting a call from someone at work complaining that the
HF radios are broken....

Pardon me? Can you explain who these dictators are? This is not a blog,
this is Usenet. Usenet does not have any dictators, although it might be
nicer if it did.
